Clients Are Now Pushing Law Firms to Use AI

Text size

Roy Strom at Bloomberg Law recently published a column titled "Clients Push Big Law Firms to Use Generative AI for Cost Savings," and shared some really interesting insights about the current legal landscape.

  • large corporate clients are increasingly asking law firms to explain how they're using AI in their service offerings.
  • some corporations are requiring AI-assisted work for tasks traditionally done by junior associates.
  • corporations are looking for "measurable cost savings," and for the firms to deliver "better, faster service."

This marks a notable shift from last year, when many companies were hesitant to let firms use AI, largely due to concerns over data privacy and the risk of hallucinations.

This also comes at a time where, amidst global economic uncertainty and tariff wars, law firm billing rates increased by 9.2% in the first half of 2025.

For in-house counsel, are you integrating AI requirements into your RFPs?

For law firms, how often are you seeing these AI questions from clients?
