The Real Moat for AI Is Context

Text size

Which LLM is the best? I get this question a lot. My honest answer is: The best LLM is the one you use the most.

Here’s why:

Models are converging in raw capability. The real edge is context + memory. When compared side-by-side, models often generate similar results on their own. The true differentiator becomes how much of your world the model remembers. A models that remembers your tone preference, commonly used phrases, risk posture, personal background, and other aspects of YOU that you've revealed to it over time will undoubtedly produce a more personalized and perceptively better result for you than other models.

Memory will compound over time: more use → more context → better output → more use. That’s the flywheel.

I experienced this today when I tried a popular prompt and asked ChatGPT: "Tell me something incredibly special or unique you've noticed about me that you think I haven't realized about myself yet."

The reply was surprisingly personal and insightful. Not because this model is innately smarter, but because this is the model I've spent the most time with.

This crystallized something for me: Context + Memory = The True Moat

Here's why this matters for lawyers:

The more you use one AI platform, the more it learns about your tone, drafting preference (Oxford commas, headings, footnotes), phrase choice, negotiation posture, and reasoning patterns. Memory will turn generic drafting into personalized work product.

Switching costs are real. How do you port hundreds, if not thousands of conversations over from one platform to another? If you set up multiple artifacts/projects on a platform, how tedious it would be to copy and paste them over one by one.

Some practical takeaways for lawyers:

  • Pick one primary AI platform and commit to it for 90% of your work.
  • Be intentional about "training" your AI on your writing style and preferences.
  • Build a Prompt Bank so if you switch platforms, you can quickly recreate your preferred interaction style.

As models commoditize, memory is the moat. Pick your home base, feed it high-quality context, and document your process.

If you had to pick your LLM "memory home" for the next 12 months, what would you choose?
